Dr. Hudis is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He also serves as the Executive Vice Chair of its Conquer Cancer Foundation. Dr. Hudis previously served in a variety of volunteer and leadership roles at ASCO, including as its President during the Society’s 50th anniversary year (2013-14). Before coming to ASCO full-time, he was the Chief of the Breast Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York City and Professor of Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. As CEO of ASCO, Dr. Hudis is responsible for delivering on the board’s strategic goals through research, education, and promotion of the highest quality, equitable patient care by the Society’s nearly 50,000 members.

Dr. Gralow is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Executive Vice President of ASCO, and brings to her role deep expertise in patient care, research, education, and global health.
Previously, she was the Jill Bennett Endowed Professor of Breast Cancer at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Professor in the Clinical Research division of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, as well as Director of Breast Medical Oncology at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Dr. Gralow is strongly committed to advancing equity in cancer care. As founder of the Women’s Empowerment Cancer Advocacy Network (WE CAN), she supports patient advocates in low- and middle-resource countries. In addition, she served as an adjunct professor in the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health, as a member of the University of Washington’s Breast Cancer Equity Initiative, as Medical Director for Women’s Cancer-related Population Health at the University of Washington, and as an advisory council member for the Uganda Cancer Institute’s adult Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program. Dr. Gralow received the ASCO Humanitarian Award in 2018 for her work in empowering women cancer patients and survivors globally.
She is a recognized leader in breast cancer clinical research, and has conducted clinical trials in breast cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship. Dr. Gralow served in leadership roles for the SWOG Cancer Research Network funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), including as Vice Chair of the Breast Cancer Committee and Executive Officer of Breast and Lung Cancer.
Before joining ASCO full-time, Dr. Gralow served the Society in a variety of volunteer and leadership roles, including chairing the ASCO Academic Global Oncology Task Force, co-chairing the ASCO Resource Stratified Guideline Advisory Group, and serving on the editorial board of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO)/ASCO Global Curriculum in Medical Oncology.
She also has been involved with numerous other nonprofit organizations, including Team Survivor Northwest, an exercise and fitness program for woman cancer survivors which she co-founded in 1995 and serves as Team Physician; a medical advisory committee member for Cierra Sisters African American Support Group; an advisory board member of Global Focus on Cancer; and a Board member of Peace Island Medical Center, a rural access hospital in Washington State.
Dr. Gralow received her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and her medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. She trained in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School and completed a medical oncology fellowship at University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
Ms. Michels serves as ASCO’s Chief Operating Officer, Chief Legal Officer & Executive Vice President as well as being the organization’s general counsel and a member of the Executive Leadership Team. She leads ASCO’s Center for Integrity and Law (CEIL), encompassing legal, governance, ethics, and compliance activities. In addition to CEIL, the Human Resources Department falls within her leadership portfolio. Prior to joining ASCO in 2006, Ms. Michels was a partner with Ropes & Gray LLP, in its Corporate Department and Health Care Group. She anchored the firm’s mid-Atlantic health care practice, representing numerous academic medical institutions and hospitals in corporate and regulatory matters. Ms. Michels earned a bachelor’s degree in history and literature from Harvard College, and a law degree with honors from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Ms. Michels is a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies.
Ms. Daly joined ASCO in 2004 as Director of Cancer Research and Policy, where her background in clinical research helped ASCO expand its focus on research issues and efforts. During the following years, ASCO’s Grants Program grew, and she took on the role of Director of Grants for the ASCO Cancer Foundation. In 2009, Ms. Daly assumed the role of Executive Director for the Foundation, which was relaunched as the Conquer Cancer Foundation in 2011. The Conquer Cancer Foundation Grants Program is now one of the largest grants programs among professional societies, with more than $96 million in funding awarded since its inception in 1984. In 2016, she became the Chief Philanthropic Officer and Executive Vice President for the Foundation (ex-officio). In 2020, Ms. Daly assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer for the Foundation.
Prior to joining ASCO, Ms. Daly managed Government Relations for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Russell Sage College, and Master of Science and Master of Public Health degrees from Columbia University. She also holds a post-Masters Nurse Practitioner degree from the MGH Institute of Health Professionals.
Mr. Merlan is the Chief Digital Officer and Executive Vice President of ASCO. He is a digital operations and technology leader with 25 years of successful and diverse experience spanning change management, enterprise architecture, program delivery, strategic planning, and operational leadership. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Rhode Island (URI) and continued his studies at URI to pursue his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration.
Prior to joining ASCO, Mr. Merlan led delivery and operations for a digital transformation project at Publicis Groupe. He has also held leadership roles at Sapient and NormaTec. At MIT, he was the Publication Director for the OpenCourseWare initiative, and was the Technology and Practice Manager for Grants Management at Harvard University.
Mr. Merlan is a leader in the technology field, having led high-performing teams at Sapient, MIT, and Harvard. He excels at enabling people and teams to reach their highest potential through open and honest communication and allowing people to take risks and grow.
Ms. Green is ASCO's Chief Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Officer and Vice President of the Center for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, leading initiatives that advance the Society’s goals around equity, diversity, and inclusion. She is also currently co-chair of the internal Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force.
Most recently, Ms. Green served as ASCO’s Director of Strategic Initiatives in Policy and Advocacy. Prior to joining the Society, she was Vice President of Health and Wellness Compliance at Walmart Stores, as well as VP Sponsor of the UNITY African American Associate Resource Group. Ms. Green also served as Deputy Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.
She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA), a minority professional association for pharmacists founded more than 70 years ago, originally to serve African American pharmacists, and has been a member of the NPhA Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2011. Ms. Green also sits on the College of Pharmacy Boards of Visitors for Howard University and Xavier University of Louisiana.
Ms. Green holds a law degree from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at Indiana University, a M.H.A. in Health Care Administration and Management from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, and a B.S. in Pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana. She also holds a Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University.
Ms. Neese is ASCO’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and Vice President, and leads the organization’s external communications, media relations/public affairs, social media, patient information, advocate relations, digital and content marketing, and member and corporate communications initiatives.
She has more than 25 years of strategic communications experience, spanning roles in corporate communications, government, and in the agency domain. Prior to joining ASCO, Ms. Neese was Vice President of Communications – Global Product, Pipeline & US Corporate at GSK, where she oversaw global product and pipeline communications, as well as domestic corporate communications. She also served as a senior member of the global communications and corporate affairs leadership team.
In addition, Ms. Neese held leadership roles at Amgen and Pfizer, and served as a Senior Communications Advisor at the US Food & Drug Administration, working with Dr. Scott Gottlieb.
She holds bachelor’s degrees in Communication Studies and Political Science from Virginia Tech.
Dr. Grubbs joined ASCO in 2015 as the Vice President of the newly launched Clinical Affairs Department. Before joining ASCO, Dr. Grubbs worked as a community oncologist and managing partner at Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants, PA, in Newark, Delaware. Dr. Grubbs is a volunteer and the Principal Investigator of the Delaware Christiana Care National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program. He also serves on the advisory council of the Delaware Cancer Consortium, of which he has been a member since 2003.
Dr. Von Roenn, an ASCO member since 1986, joined the Society professionally in 2013 as the Vice President of Education, Science, and Professional Development (ESPD). In this role, she and her staff collaborate with ASCO members and volunteers to plan, implement, and evaluate all formal US-based education activities (including MOC and CME), provided by ASCO for oncology healthcare professionals. In addition, the ESPD department supports the training and professional development of oncologists throughout the trajectory of their careers. Dr. Von Roenn has served on the ASCO Board of Directors; the ASCO Palliative Care Task Force; the Scientific Program, Cancer Education, and Cancer Communications Committees, among others; the Cancer.Net Editorial Board; and the Leadership Development Working Group. She is also a Fellow of ASCO (FASCO), as well as a previous ASCO-ACS Special Award recipient.
Dr. Von Roenn is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and palliative medicine. Her clinical and research interests focus on breast cancer and palliative care, particularly the impact of treatment on disease-related symptoms. She has previously served as Director of the Palliative Medicine Fellowship Training Program at Northwestern, spearheading efforts throughout Northwestern to incorporate palliative medicine into the medical school curriculum and internal medicine residency training. She also focuses on training medical oncologists to integrate palliative medicine principles and practices into oncology. She served as an editor of the Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care in Oncology curriculum and as a leadership coach at the San Diego Palliative Care Institute, International Fellows Leadership Development Program. She has actively participated in efforts to develop palliative care services worldwide, serving on several working groups and as faculty for international-focused education courses.
Dr. Von Roenn has served on the editorial board of several oncology and palliative medicine journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Journal of Cancer Pain & Symptom Palliation and the Journal of Cancer Survivorship. She previously served as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Supportive Oncology. She is a past board member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has served on numerous committees on breast cancer and palliative care.
Dr. Von Roenn received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and her medical degree from Rush Medical College. She trained in internal medicine at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Ms. King joined ASCO in 2019, and brings to her role about 20 years of experience in corporate human resources. Previously, she served as Vice President of Human Resources for Universities Space Research Association (USRA), where she oversaw the design, development, and implementation of all human resources management functions. Ms. King also led the development of a strategic plan focused on talent management.
In addition, Ms. King was Senior Vice President at NeighborWorks® America, a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization that supports community development in the United States. Prior to joining NeighborWorks® in 2012, she served as Vice President for Operations and Chief Human Resources Officer at the U.S. Institute of Peace, an organization established through an Act of Congress in 1984 that is dedicated to preventing, mitigating, and resolving violent conflicts around the world.
Before her tenure at the Institute of Peace, Ms. King served as Director of Human Resources at the International Life Sciences Institute. During her career, she developed many new initiatives for organizations while fine-tuning existing programs and operations.
Ms. King holds an M.S.A. in Human Resources from Central Michigan University, and a B.S. in Business and Management: Personnel and Labor Relations from the University of Maryland. She also holds certifications as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR), a senior certified professional (SHRM-SCP), a human capital strategist (HCS), and is a certified mediator.
Mr. Lawyer joined ASCO in 2020, and is responsible for leading the enterprise-wide implementation of technology solutions that deliver high-quality, personalized user experiences, streamline processes, and keep data secure. He has more than 25 years of experience in the information technology industry.
Mr. Lawyer served as Assistant Director of IT, Enterprise Systems and Support at Duke University, where he led a multi-disciplinary team and managed large-scale systems and applications. In addition, he served in IT roles at Harvard University and The College of New Jersey. During his career, he has championed the use of enterprise-wide solutions that eliminate redundancies and centralize systems, as well as implementing technology that is as state-of-the-art as it is secure.
Mr. Lawyer holds a B.A. in Mathematics from The College of New Jersey, as well as minors in Statistics and Physics. He also earned certifications in Oracle and Microsoft Systems.
Mr. Pyle joined ASCO in 2007. Mr. Pyle is responsible for directing the international programs of ASCO and advising the Society on the needs and interests of its international members and constituents. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in international affairs in the public, non-profit and corporate sectors. Prior to joining ASCO, Mr. Pyle was the Director of Business Solutions for the International Services department of the American Red Cross, where he led strategic process improvements to the organization's global humanitarian operations.
Earlier in his career, he was the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Center for International Rehabilitation, the Manager for strategic planning/business development for the US subsidiary of Eisai (a Japanese pharmaceutical company), and administered technical assistance projects funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. Mr. Pyle earned a bachelor's degree in history from Carleton College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Yale University.
Ms. Barnes joined ASCO in 2014 as Vice President of Member Services and is responsible for leading ASCO’s strategic membership growth and development. Through her leadership, the Member Services team provides quality benefits and customer service that deliver high membership value to meet the growing and diverse needs of the ASCO membership.
Ms. Barnes is a membership professional with more than 20 years’ experience in nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining ASCO, she held the position of Assistant Executive Director for Membership, Marketing, and Communication Services at the Council for Exceptional Children. Previously, she has also served in executive membership and marketing positions for the National Recreation and Park Association and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Ms. Barnes is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and earned her Master of Business Administration from Marymount University. In addition, Ms. Barnes earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE), the highest certification offered by the American Society of Association Executives.
Dr. Kamin joined ASCO in 1998, leading the Society’s work on a wide range of issues of concern to oncology professionals in all practice settings. Prior to joining ASCO, she directed health policy and benefit design for the Department of Defense civilian health insurance program, TRICARE, which covers more than 9 million beneficiaries worldwide. Dr. Kamin earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the Medical College of Georgia, a master’s degree in management science at the Naval Postgraduate School, and a PhD in health policy at the George Washington University.
Ms. Cochran joined ASCO in 2020, and is responsible for the oversight of ASCO’s journals, ensuring practitioners worldwide have the latest evidence-based oncology research to improve patient care and outcomes. She has 22 years of experience managing comprehensive programs in engineering and medical scholarly content.
Ms. Cochran served as Managing Director and Publisher at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), where she led a self-operated publishing division, oversaw management of multiple digital platforms, and defined strategies for product development and revenue growth. In addition, she served in publishing roles at the American Cancer Society and Pearson Education.
Ms. Cochran’s commitment to the publishing industry and status as a thought leader has been well established. She is first person to be elected president of both the Council of Science Editors and the Society for Scholarly Publishing, and currently serves as Associate Editor of The Scholarly Kitchen, leading an ongoing dialogue of industry developments.
Ms. Cochran holds a B.A. in English from Stonehill College, as well as a minor in Journalism/Mass Communication.
Ms. Davis-Aitken joined ASCO in 2001. She began her career in ASCO program support and joined the Meetings Services department in 2006. From 2006 to 2017, she oversaw all aspects of ASCO’s Annual Meeting, including exhibits, registration, housing, and logistics. In 2017, she assumed the role of Vice President and is responsible for overseeing ASCO’s meetings program, including the ASCO Annual Meeting and nine symposia and workshops. Her focus is on ensuring that ASCO meetings follow current best practices and consistently incorporate member feedback and innovative technologies that adapt to the evolutionary needs of ASCO members.
Ms. Tai serves as Vice President of ASCO’s Center for Integrity and Law (CEIL), which encompasses ASCO’s legal and governance activities. She is the organization’s General Counsel; General Counsel for Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation; and Corporate Secretary for the Association for Clinical Oncology. She previously served as ASCO’s Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary of CancerLinQ.
Prior to joining ASCO, Ms. Tai was a member of the Tax, Benefits, and Nonprofit Organizations team at the law firm of Patton Boggs LP, where she was named Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. She received the American Bar Association Outstanding Young Nonprofit Lawyer Award in 2009. Ms. Tai earned a bachelor’s degree, with honors, in Linguistics from Brown University, a master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
Dr. Garrett-Mayer joined ASCO in 2017 as CENTRA’s Division Director for Biostatistics and Research Data Governance and became CENTRA’s first Vice President in 2022. CENTRA leads ASCO’s research efforts, including the TAPUR Study, ASCO’s COVID-19 Registry, and research projects aimed at increasing minority enrollment and expanding eligibility criteria in clinical trials. Prior to joining ASCO, she served on the faculty in the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in the Department of Oncology, and then joined the faculty of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and established the Biostatistics Shared Resource at the Hollings Cancer Center (HCC).
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College in Math and Economics, and a PhD in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her publication record includes more than 280 peer-reviewed publications, primarily in cancer research and research methods. She has also been a member of numerous NIH grant review committees, Data Safety Monitoring Boards for NIH-supported clinical trials and has served on the editorial board of three peer-reviewed journals (Clinical Trials, Cancer, and the Journal of the National Cancer Institute), and as faculty on the ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop for over a decade.
