Special Awards

As an ASCO member, you know and work with incredible people who have dedicated their lives to conquering cancer. Please help ASCO recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to ASCO, the practice of clinical oncology, and people with cancer by nominating an exceptional colleague, mentor, teacher, collaborator, leader, friend or yourself, for an ASCO Special Award. 

Submitting a nomination takes no more than a minute or two and ASCO members can earn up to 2 FASCO points a year for doing so. Nominations can be submitted year-round, from October 1 – September 30 the following year, and awards are presented at the ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL.

Allen Lichter Visionary Leader Award – ASCO members who have demonstrated innovative and inspirational leadership to significantly advance the mission of ASCO and transform oncology and the overall cancer community.

ASCO-American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention – ASCO members who have made a significant contribution to cancer prevention and control research or practice.

B.J. Kennedy Geriatric Oncology Award – Geriatric oncologists who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and achievement in the field, with a professional record that includes advanced scholarship and effective mentorship of fellows.

David Karnofsky Memorial Award – Oncologists who have made outstanding contributions to cancer research, diagnosis, and/or treatment of cancer.

Excellence in Equity Award, Endowed by the American Cancer Society – ASCO members who have made significant and measurable contributions towards increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the field of oncology, or increasing access to equitable care for cancer patients.

Excellence in Teaching Award – Physician educators who have had a demonstrable impact on their trainees.

Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award – Active clinical and/or translational researchers with a proven track record in mentoring fellows and junior faculty and with a distinguished record of accomplishments in advancing the field of breast cancer.

Humanitarian Award – ASCO members who personify ASCO’s mission and values by going above and beyond the call of duty in providing outstanding patient care through innovative means or exceptional service or leadership in the United States or abroad.

Patient Advocate Award – Individuals whose advocacy efforts have impacted public awareness about cancer, its causes, cures, or treatment.

Pediatric Oncology Award – Pediatric oncologists who have demonstrated outstanding leadership or achievement in the field.

Science of Oncology Award – Individuals known for their major contributions to basic or translational research in cancer.

Walther Cancer Foundation Supportive Oncology Award – Individuals with multiple, significant, and enduring contributions to palliative and supportive care in oncology through the prevention, assessment, and management of cancer- and treatment-related suffering.
