ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Jeremy Lyle Warner, MD, MS, FAMIA, FASCO, has been appointed as the next Editor-in-Chief of JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics (JCO CCI), an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) journal. JCO CCI is an online-only interdisciplinary journal with a primary focus on how information systems help us learn from and improve cancer care, how they interact with each other, and how they serve to advance the field of cancer medicine.

“I am thrilled that Dr. Warner has accepted this opportunity to lead JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics,” said ASCO President Eric P. Winer, MD, FASCO. “He is a highly accomplished oncologist with demonstrated excellence in engineering, medicine, and biomedical informatics. He recognizes the strengths of JCO CCI and the elements necessary to expand its reach in the field.”

Dr. Warner is Professor of Medicine at Brown University, member of the Legorreta Cancer Center, and Director of the Center for Clinical Cancer Informatics and Data Science (CCIDS). He practices at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI.  He is an active ASCO volunteer and has served on several ASCO committees, including the Health IT Workgroup, Quality Care Committee, CancerLinQ Data Analytics Committee and Data Standards and Interoperability Taskforce, and currently the Evidence Based Medicine Committee. Dr. Warner has served as an editor for JCO CCI for 7 years and previously served on editorial board of JCO Oncology Practice. He has authored more than 130 journal articles and 6 book chapters and co-founded the COVID-19 and Cancer Consortium (CCC19).

Dr. Warner received his Medical Degree from Boston University and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at University of California San Francisco and his fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California San Diego.

“I am thrilled to follow in the footsteps of the inaugural Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Debra Patt, MD, PhD, MBA, FASCO, who has positioned JCO CCI as one of the leading journals in the growing field of cancer informatics,” said Dr. Warner. “I look forward to growing our scope and impact as the field of oncology, along with all fields in medicine, increasingly embraces advanced analytic approaches in what must be a responsible and ethical manner.”

Dr. Warner will begin serving as JCO CCI Editor-in-Chief on June 1, 2023.
