Mentorship

ASCO mentoring initiatives aim to pair participants with a mentor to support individual learning, growth, and professional development needs. ASCO offers a wide variety of mentoring, including long-term and situational mentoring for both international and domestic participants across multiple populations and career stages.

ASCO Virtual Mentoring Programs

ASCO’s Virtual Mentoring Program (VMP) pairs members with a mentor outside of their institution through virtual technology to address unmet career development needs of:

  • Practicing Oncologists
  • Populations Underrepresented in Medicine
  • Women in Oncology
  • Oncologists in Training

Applications for the 2022-2023 ASCO VMP will be accepted from November 16, 2022, to January 20, 2023. Applicants to the 2022-2023 cycle can expect to be notified in Spring 2023. If you are interested in learning more about the VMP, please review the application guidelines and visit the ASCO application portal to apply.

ASCO Diversity Mentoring Program

The ASCO Diversity Mentoring Program is designed to encourage U.S.-based medical students and residents who are underrepresented in medicine (URM) to pursue rewarding careers in oncology.

Annual Meeting Mentoring

ASCO offers mentoring opportunities during its Annual Meeting.

Annual Meeting mentoring meetups require advance sign-up and information on how to participate in a mentoring session will be available each Spring prior to the Annual Meeting.

Journals Lounge-Global Oncology

The Publications Lounge is a place where authors, editorial board members, and reviewers can gather to relax, take a coffee break, and network. The Publications Lounge offers Global Oncology Mentoring Hours, during which attendees meet for 30-minute time slots to talk about issues related to Global Oncology.

Women Networking Center

The Women's Networking Center is a dedicated space to meet the professional development needs of women in oncology. The Center provides mentoring opportunities for women in the field to make connections, discuss professional goals, or seek career advice.

Trainee & Early Career Oncologist Member Lounge

The Lounge offers one-on-one mentoring meetings to meet the unique early career development needs of students, residents, trainees, and oncologists within 1-3 years post-training. Lounge attendees can sign-up to meet with a more experienced oncologist to discuss their career or training goals and to receive professional development guidance.
