The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced the availability of nearly $48 million in grants for community-based organizations to expand public health capacity in rural and tribal communities through health care job development, training, and placement. The grants are available under the Rural Public Health Workforce Training Network Program, which was included in the American Rescue Plan.

Funding recipients will develop formal training and/or certification programs in order to increase capacity in the following workforce training tracks: community health support; health IT/telehealth training support; community paramedicine; and case management staff/respiratory therapists.

Applicant organizations may include domestic public or private, non-profit or for-profit entities, including faith-based, community-based, tribes, and tribal organizations. The applicant organization may be located in a rural or urban area but must have demonstrated experience serving, or the capacity to serve, rural underserved populations.
