The Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services (CMS) has opened the Final Score Preview period for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) 2021 performance year. The preview period is a new phase of MIPS that provides clinicians the opportunity to preview their final score prior to the release of 2023 payment adjustment information. It aims to provide more transparent communication and improve the feedback process between CMS and clinicians compared to prior performance years, ensuring that final scores are accurate and potential issues are identified before calculating payment adjustments.

Oncology practices and clinicians can preview their 2021 MIPS final scores by logging into the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website. The preview period is available until August 2022, when final 2023 performance feedback and payment adjustments will be released. 2021 final scores will determine 2023 MIPS payment adjustments. After the release of the payment adjustment information, there will be a 60-day targeted review period when clinicians can request a review of their MIPS payment adjustment calculation.

Data available during the preview period include performance category-level scores and weights, measure-level performance data and scores, activity-level scores, and bonus points. The preview period will not include payment adjustment information or patient-level reports.
