With Congressional Support, the Reignited Cancer Moonshot Can End Cancer as We Know It

March 1, 2022

The Association for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) joined with more than 100 organizations to urge Congress to support President Biden’s reinvigorated Cancer Moonshot, which was announced at the White House earlier this year. The initiative aims to halve the cancer death rate over the next 25 years through improved prevention, early detection, and treatment, as well as committing to improve the care experience for patients with cancer and their families.

In the letter, the organizations urge Congress to allocate funding to support these important initiatives, saying that the Moonshot’s goals are “…laudable, timely, and achievable, but only with the allocation of adequate funding to support these initiatives.”

The cosigners also endorse the President’s plan to host a White House Cancer Moonshot Summit to bring together agency leadership, patients, providers, public health, and research and development organizations to highlight innovation, progress, and new commitments towards ending cancer as we know it.
