This month, 88 members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) urging the chamber to use upcoming government funding legislation to address the Medicare physician payment cuts that took effect on January 1, 2024.

The letter highlights the need for bipartisan solutions and expresses concerns about the impact of ongoing cuts on physician practices, patient access to healthcare, and the overall healthcare workforce shortage. With the March government funding deadlines coming up, the letter signatories request that the House and Senate work together to include provisions that provide stability to physician payments.

Bolstering the effort, 32 Senators sent a similar letter to Senate Majority Leader Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) calling for action to address the 2024 Medicare payment cuts and long-term legislative solutions to reform the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act.
